Personalized visit to the Clinica Diagonals's operating rooms

Yesterday, the founders and writers of this blog (Gerard, Lluís and Roger) had the pleasure to assist to a visit at the operating rooms that Clinica Diagonal has. The public realtions chief of the clinical center, Maria Carmen, showed to us three the six rooms were surgery is practised daily.

Firstly, we had to dress up as surgeon personal: we wear the same clothes as nurses, surgeons, anaesthetists and the rest of the employees. From the feet to the head, we were protected in order to not to contaminate the space.

Because the part of the building that dedicates to surgery is a completely sterile area, to access to it you have to go through lots of differnt doors. The pressure there is lower than in the rest of the hospital, in order to block the microorganisms' entrance.

Once we were there, Maria Carmen explained the functioning of the place, as we were seeing it from first person. She explained how they manage to realise all the operations with just six rooms, the different types of surgeon that can be carried out in Clinica Diagonal and we saw different live operations. We saw a laparoscopy, a breast intervention and a hand reparation, among others.

It was really impressive to experience how a working place like that works like, a place were people's lifes are improved or even saved. Its functioning is really amazing, because they have to be always prepared for any kind of emergency, and the clean enviroment makes you think how accurate they must be (not to talk of how precise and perfect the personal has to be when they do the operations).

Finally, from here we thank Escola Garbí Institució Pere Vergés for the opportunity, and Clinica Diagonal and Maria Carmen especially for the kindness and the goodwill.
